On September 3rd, Silliman’s Honor Society sponsored a “Wear Your Favorite College Jersey” Day to raise much needed funds for communities in Southwest Louisiana devastated by Hurricane Laura.
Silliman students responded in true fashion, bringing their donations and sporting their college jerseys and T-shirts. We raised over $700! The money has been sent to the Southwest Louisiana Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) in Lake Charles, providing much needed fuel and replacement blades for chain saws, tarps, bleach and other cleaning/disinfecting supplies, and much more.
Local FCA teams, including LSU’s FCA chapter, assisted the Lake Charles’ FCA team, cutting downed trees, tarping roofs and cleaning up in the 90 plus degrees heat. Silliman alumni Ryan Armstrong (’14) is pictured here among the FCA workers in Lake Charles. Thanks for the pictures! Most importantly, the teams have been ministering to and praying with the families and business owners in the hard-hit community of Lake Charles and surrounding areas, as they not only begin repairs to physical properties but also try to mend their spirits and hold fast to their faith in Christ.
Good work, Wildcats and Fellowship of Christian Athletes!
