Football players honor veterans

Football players come together to honor veterans

Four football players from area high school helped with the creation of Jackson's Veterans Memorial on June 28. The players used the teamwork skills they picked up on the field to complete the project. They turned brick layers for the day as they assisted organizers of the new Veterans Memorial on La. 10 in Jackson.

Brock Berthelot, from Silliman Institute, who plays quarterback, running back and safety; Jackson Fazio, of West Feliciana High, who plays quarterback, linebacker and running back; Shane Duncan, quarterback for Slaughter Charter; and Caleb Anderson of East Feliciana, who's a multisport athlete playing quarterback, running back or safety, spent the day preparing the area and laying personalized bricks honoring veterans. Welcome Home Roy Corcoran – Silliman’s Head Baseball Coach

Roy Corcoran:  2018 Wildcat Baseball’s New Coach From Wildcat Country, to LSU, to the major leagues, and now back again. Roy Corcoran began his career as a Silliman Wildcat, then in 1998 he signed with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. After 2 years there, he signed with Louisiana State University and played for the LSU Tigers for 1 year. In 2001, he signed as a free agent with the Montreal Expos and made his major league debut in 2003. From there he also played with the Washington Nationals, Florida Marlins, Seattle Mariners, Houston Astros, and LA Dodgers. With Major League time in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2009. In 2008, he was awarded the "Unsung Hero" award for the Seattle Mariners. He has also played professionally in Puerto Rico, Venezuela, The Dominican Republic, and Mexico. Varsity and Jr. Varsity Track win District!!

Congratulations to the boys and girls on Varsity and JV Track for winning District!! The meets were held on Monday the 16th for JV and Thursday the 19th for Varsity.  Both teams were successful in their pursuit for the District win.
